November 20, 2018 (Springfield, OH) – Clark State Community College and the Clark County Department of Job and Family Services/OhioMeansJobs have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which will allow CCDJFS to provide services to students on campus.
“As we work to offer students a well-rounded service model, it often extends beyond the college,” said Nina Wiley, dean of student engagement and support services. “We want to partner with outside agencies to provide services that will help students overcome barriers.”
Lehan Peters, Ddeputy Ddirector for OhioMeansJobs Clark County, said the MOU between Clark State and CCDJFS will provide case management services to help address the personal barriers students may encounter while they try to stay in school, juggle work schedules and take care of family.
“CCDJFS offers a myriad of services and programs forin which Clark State students can apply without leaving campus,” she said. “Services may include transportation assistance, child care, medical or workforce education and training scholarships, just to mention a few.”
Wiley said having the presence of CCDJFS on campus could open the door for other agencies to have dedicated time on campus, “Students will know when they are here and can connect directly with that agency.”
Peters said CCDJFS is excited about the collaboration and working with Clark State students by providing assistance and supportive services so they can successfully complete their education.
“Clark State fully understands the value of strong partnerships and has led our region in developing effective sector strategies through employer engagement and aligning the college with other community organizations and resources that will benefit Clark State students,” said Peters.
The CCDJFS resource navigator will be located in the newly established Office of Student Support Services in Rhodes Hall on Clark State’s Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. The resource navigator will be available to students Mondays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and Thursdays from 12-4 p.m.
